For over six years we have been trying to pay off the debt of building the church in the early 1980’s. Through monthly collections and events such as Raffles, Jumble Sales, the Christmas Bazaar, donations from Sacred Heart School and many others to try to clear the debt so we can consecrate the church. We are almost there.
Consecration means setting aside for God. It is an offering or a gift to God. The date of the Consecration is 6th June 2016 the Archbishop has agreed the date.
In June this year we will begin a Year of Spiritual Preparation to be ready for this event.
Things to be done before we can consecrate the church -
The current altar and sanctuary are not suitable. An altar must be made of material such as stone and must be fixed into the floor so it cannot be moved. This is a major expense and at the minute we are trying to get an idea of costs for this to happen.
The confessional space is not suitable and has to be moved to the back of the church where it can be made large enough to accommodate wheelchair access.
